Continue contingency planning to protect and maintain service of key water infrastructure facilities from extreme weather events.
As part of the ‘Strategic Water Production Facilities Master Plan (ongoing)’ the vulnerability of water treatment facilities to extreme weather events will be assessed and strategies will be identified to mitigate its impacts. Parameters such as road access to facility, capacity of facilities during extreme weather events and energy sources to power these facilities will be assessed. In addition to water treatment facilities, DWU will conduct this assessment for wastewater and storm water facilities and recommendations from these assessments will be implemented.
DWU will evaluate the potential to install solar panels and battery storage for critical infrastructure to provide resilience during potential future grid outages. DWU will also evaluate the need to install generators to support critical facility functions as a secondary power source.
