CECAP Updates

The residents of Dallas have spoken.

The first CECAP Community Survey was housed (in English and Spanish) on the plan's website along with other related information. With AECOM, we hosted 6 formal community meetings at City facilities dispersed across the entire City; English and Spanish-speaking staff also attended 40 community meetings at various locations as requested by Community organizations. We are thrilled that, through these efforts, 1,235 people responded to the survey; additionally, we were provided with 3,281 individual responses on the 7 identified plan focus areas.

Survey responses to top 3 priorities

Who participated in the meetings and took the surveys?

Reported zip codes in the City of Dallas limits that participated in meetings or took the survey.

Demographic data was collected to show responses were obtained from all areas of the City. These data will be helpful when focusing on equity as we develop the proposed actions for the CECAP. 1,238 people (91.6% of all participants) who attended a public meeting or participated in a survey reported their zip code. 1,185 of those were from zip codes in the City of Dallas boundary and 53 were from surrounding communities-- including Richardson, Garland, McKinney, among others. Zip codes 75214, 75206 and 75218 had the most participation.

A summary of the survey results is now available on the site.

I, like many Dallas residents, believe the city of Dallas current CECAP does not go far enough and I hope the city council will consider its proposal with the urgency it deserves. The current plan would only create a 18% reduction of carbon emissions by 2030, that is not enough. I believe the city council members need to consider creating a a residents advisory committee to ensure a stronger plan is implemented. We have the opportunity to lead on environmental justice and I encourage the city council to and us the citizens to demand stronger actions like our life depended on it, because when it comes to our environment it truly does.

Your plan is too conservative. If you mention dates such as 2030 and 2050, it gives me the feeling that you are not listening to the scientists. We must act as if we understand the true urgency of the changes that must be made. It will be painful but we really have no choice.
